HTHMUN III

Committee Name

Topic

I.                    Introduction

Use this space to briefly introduce yourself to the delegates.  Pertinent information includes your name, grade, the school that you attend, the number of years that you have been involved with the Model UN program, and a way for delegates to contact you with questions.

II.                 Historical Background

This space should be several paragraphs long, and should explain the historical landmarks of the topic which led to its international significance. Be prepared to discuss some of the pacts and treaties that are relevant to your topic.

III.               UN Involvement

This section differs from the last in that while it is also historical, it should only identify the topic as it is significant within the UN.  Included in this section should be the branches of the UN that deal with your topic, any documents passed by the UN, and any conventions the UN has called.

IV.              Possible Solutions

Use this section to suggest ways that your topic can be combated.  Leave these fairly broad, as this is the main purpose of the delegates’ attendance.

V.                 Questions to Answer

In this section, come up with at least three questions that you believe it will be valuable for a delegate to be able to answer.

VI.               Bloc Positions

This section is a major guide for most delegates.  Using the blocs of Western, Latin, African, Asian, and Middle Eastern, provide a rough suggestion as to what a delegates’ policy might be on your issue.  These five blocs are only a suggestion, as some topics are not geographically divisible.

VII.            Bibliography

In this section, list links to websites that you used in the writing of your brief.  Also be sure to include

http://mun.hightechhigh.org                                      http://www.un.org

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/                      http://www.google.com

Briefs should be about two pages in length.  Do not hesitate to use the High Tech High MUN website, the Tustin MUN website (thsmun.org) or the Mission Viejo MUN website (mvhsmun.org) if you need more assistance in writing your briefs, or email Alexandra Berkowitz at aberkowitz@hightechhigh.org.  Please send all completed briefs to hthmun@hightechigh.org.
